Let’s Celebrate Our Homes

By Tracey Kirstein, PT, CAPS- Abilities Specialist/Aging in Place Coordinator

Knowing how to celebrate is so important and now more than ever, we have learned the time to celebrate is NOW. In his book, “The Art of Celebrating,” David Monn shares his understanding that “regardless of age, culture or class, we all possess a need to gather together, to celebrate special events or rites of passage, to feel we belong, and ultimately to tell the stories of who we are….” Our calendars, whether via healthcare, support organizations, hobbies, or Hallmark, just to name a few, delineate each month/each day to be celebrated including everything from New Year’s Eve to the first day of Spring, Peace Month to Peanut Butter and Jelly Day! If you wake up and are unsure if you have a reason to celebrate, check  with Google!

And lucky for us, there are countless ways to celebrate! You can start your day as a celebration. Nancy H. Rothstein, The Sleep Ambassador, offers in her blog, “21 ways to celebrate life,” inspired by and written in memory of her son Joseph.  She suggests, for example: smiling, eating ice cream, running on the beach (even if only in your imagination), calling someone who is lonely or ill, laughing…

Where better to celebrate our lives than in our own homes? In fact, what if we make our homes the celebration?  David Monn believes in making your home “the place you want to be, the true expression of who you are.”

It’s interesting to note that paint stores have been busier than ever during the Covid-19 pandemic. Aside for people having more time at home for upgrades like a fresh coat of paint, it’s also likely because fresh paint with new colors gives new life to a house or apartment. And just like that good feeling we get when our home is freshly scrubbed clean, there are myriad ways to lift the energy in our homes. From lighting to window size and shape, flooring to decluttering, our homes can reflect who we are. Whether it’s a remodel of an outdated bathroom or kitchen or building an in-law suite or office, adding or updating outdoor living spaces, there are endless possibilities to consider that can all serve to make us feel better and renewed. And haven’t we all been seeking the opportunity to reemerge?

If the idea of celebrating and renewing your home resonates with you, get in touch with us and let’s talk about all the ways that Brad-Core can make your home a cause for celebration.
